LABOR TO KICK OFF HEIDELBERG UTD’S OLYMPIC PARK PLANS

14 March, 2019

A Shorten Labor Government would invest $2.5 million towards upgrades supporting community and female football participation at Heidelberg United Football Club’s home ground, Olympic Park.

Heidelberg United is proud to have developed 15 Australian representatives and to be an advocate of female football, having first established a women’s team in 1978.

Growing female participation rates and the club’s strong representation from Mini Roos programs, through junior sides, to its senior teams in the NPL and NPLW have stretched its ageing home facilities.
Labor’s investment would help turn the large Olympic Park site into a sporting precinct fit to meet the needs of both the club and the broader community.

Plans improvements include new unisex change rooms and expanded club rooms in a refurbished Kelly Pavilion; a flood-lit, synthetic pitch for club and community use; relocating light poles to improve lighting of the main pitch; and a new community recreation featuring a basketball / netball court and hit-up wall.
Labor is committed to supporting clubs and communities to improve local sporting facilities to give all Australians a fair go at sport, whether they dream of one day representing Australia or just want to enjoy the benefits of being physically active.

Our investments in local community sporting clubs and facilities like these help them build capacity to meet the welcome growth in female participation in club sport and support more Australians to live active, healthy lifestyles.

We can invest in a sporting chance for all Australians because Labor has made the tough budget decisions to make multinationals pay their fair share of tax and close tax loopholes used by the top end of town, and we won’t give the big banks a tax cut.
